How I became Melbourne’s trusted freelance bookkeeper.

My career in financial services is driven by a genuine interest in how clean data can transform a struggling operation into a profitable one. I started in corporate accounting roles where I learned the rigours of Australian tax compliance and the importance of airtight systems. While the technical side of the work was fulfilling, I often felt the disconnect between high-level reporting and the day-to-day reality of the small business owners those reports were meant to serve.

That is why I transitioned into solo practice. I had seen too many businesses get lost in the shuffle of large agencies where their books were handed off to junior staff or outsourced to offshore teams who didn’t understand the nuances of the Australian Tax Office (ATO) or local Fair Work awards. I wanted to offer a different experience—one where the person you speak to on the phone is the same person actually performing the bank reconciliation and preparing your BAS.

Today, I operate Lyvia Bookkeeping as a boutique Bookkeeping Service in Melbourne Australia, run from my home base. I have deliberately kept my practice solo to ensure that my 50+ clients receive my undivided professional attention. I don’t just “do the books”; I help creative agencies, health clinics, and tradies understand their cash flow so they can make informed decisions about their future.

Credentials you can verify.

In a YMYL (Your Money Your Life) industry like financial services, verifiable credentials are the only way to ensure your bookkeeper is qualified to handle your compliance and protect your business from ATO penalties.

Member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) — Membership #423881

My membership with Australia’s leading professional body provides me with legislative updates and technical support to keep your business ahead of regulatory changes.

Cert IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping (FNS40222)

The foundational Australian qualification that ensures a deep understanding of GST, payroll legislation, and financial reporting standards.

Xero Certified Advisor & Xero Payroll Certified

I have achieved the highest level of certification in Xero, ensuring your cloud accounting file is optimised for speed and accuracy.

MYOB Partner & QuickBooks ProAdvisor

I maintain active partnerships with all major Australian platforms to support your business regardless of your preferred software.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

I hold comprehensive Professional Indemnity Insurance, giving you legal protection and total peace of mind when your books are in my hands.

My approach to your books.

I operate on a model of transparency and technical excellence. When you work with me, you are investing in a partnership based on four core principles:

Direct accountability

I personally perform every task on your file, from data entry to BAS lodgement. You will never have your sensitive financial data handed off to a junior clerk or an offshore provider; I am the single point of contact and the person responsible for every decimal point.

Cloud-first, security-first

I utilise an encrypted tech stack featuring Xero and Hubdoc to ensure your data is handled in accordance with Australian Privacy Principles. This cloud-based approach provides us both with real-time visibility while maintaining the highest level of digital security.

Proactive, not reactive

I don’t wait for you to ask for a report or remind me of a deadline. I conduct monthly reviews of your file and send proactive reminders well before ATO lodgement dates, ensuring you never face avoidable late fees or interest charges.

Plain-English reporting

Financial reports are useless if you can’t read them. Every month, I provide a clear summary of your position—revenue, expenses, and liabilities—explained in plain English so you actually understand your numbers and can use them to grow.

Industries I specialise in.

Creative Studios & Agencies

Creative businesses often struggle with project-based cash flow and contractor management. I implement systems that track project profitability and ensure your contractors are paid on time while keeping your own GST obligations clear.

Allied Health Practices

From NDIS complexities to trust accounting and health fund reconciliations, I help clinics manage high-volume transactions. I ensure your payroll remains compliant with specific industry awards so you can focus on patient care.

Cafes & Hospitality

Hospitality is a high-pressure environment with complex weekend penalty rates and superannuation requirements. I manage your STP Phase 2 compliance and payroll so you can keep the doors open without stressing over Fair Work audits.

Tradies & Sole Traders

I understand that tradies are often on-site, not in the office. I set up mobile-friendly systems for capturing receipts and managing subcontractor TPAR (Taxable Payments Annual Report) obligations, ensuring you stay compliant while you’re on the tools.

Real results, real businesses.

Case Study

Allied Health Migration

Situation
A 12-person physiotherapy clinic in Melbourne was using an outdated MYOB Essentials file with recurring payroll errors.
Action
I performed a full data audit and migrated the practice to Xero Payroll, setting up automated superannuation and STP Phase 2.
Outcome
Eliminated manual entry errors, saved the owner 10 hours of admin per month, and achieved 100% STP compliance within 6 weeks.
Case Study

Creative Agency Rescue

Situation
A digital agency had 18 months of unreconciled transactions and multiple overdue BAS lodgements.
Action
I conducted a historical “rescue” clean-up, reconciling over 2,000 transactions and negotiating a payment plan with the ATO.
Outcome
Brought all lodgements up to date in 21 days and identified $4,000 in unclaimed GST credits that the owner had previously missed.

Always learning, always compliant.

The Australian tax landscape is constantly shifting, so continuous learning is non-negotiable. I attend fortnightly ICB webinars, follow ATO practitioner briefings, and complete annual certifications for Xero and MYOB. This ongoing commitment ensures that the service I provide is based on the very latest legislation and software updates.

Before you book

Questions about working with me

Who actually does the work on my books?
I do. Unlike larger firms that use your account to train junior staff, I personally handle every aspect of your file. When you hire Lyvia Bookkeeping, you are hiring my direct expertise and my personal commitment to your business’s financial health.
Are you insured?
Yes. I hold current Professional Indemnity Insurance so your business is legally protected against errors and omissions. Insurance is a baseline requirement for anyone providing professional bookkeeping services Melbourne businesses can rely on.
What happens to my data and where is it stored?
Your data is stored in secure, Australian-compliant cloud environments like Xero and Hubdoc. I follow strict data handling protocols in line with the Australian Privacy Principles, ensuring your sensitive financial information is encrypted and accessible only by authorised parties.
What if I already have an accountant?
Most of my clients do. I work collaboratively with your tax accountant, providing them with a “clean” file at year-end so they can focus on high-level tax strategy rather than fixing basic entry errors. This often reduces your annual accounting bill.
Can I meet you in person before committing?
If you are based in the Melbourne metro area (specifically around Burwood, Fitzroy, or the CBD), I am happy to meet in person for our initial consultation. For clients further afield, I offer seamless video consultations via Zoom or Google Meet.
